Hi Everybody
The last few weeks have been very busy with lots of things happening at our new workshop. There has been painting and sanding, and furniture being made as we prepare to set up. It will be fabulous to have our own space again, and a wonderful opportunity to custom design it knowing exactly what we will need. Arthur has been putting in some long hours organizing things, with more to come when we are ready to transfer all the things stored in his lockup, at SIT, and various other places around about.

We are hoping to have the night classes moved over in a few weeks time. It will be a relief for everyone. We are incredibly grateful to SIT's generous support and we couldn't have managed without them, but they need their space back in December, and I think we are all keen to get back to a more 'normal' life!

*Click on the page about the nightclasses in the top bar to see some lovely pictures of the work that is being made by our students.

The next Committee Meeting will be on November 5th 7pm, with the venue to be confirmed. If you are interested in attending please ring Arthur on 3821332 closer to the time.

Some Photos of the Progress Being Made - Pretty Exciting!

Don't Forget about our Mentoring Programme

Mentoring and Studio Time Programme

Members of the Guild have offered their time and home studios for a new Mentoring
and Studio time programme. The programme is designed to be flexible and all you
have to do is to ring around the mentors until you find one who is available and
arrange a rendezvous. It is expected you would give a donation of $10.00 to the
mentor which will go to the Guild. Once we are in our permanent space this
programme will continue but will be held in the Guild workshop.

Mentors
Noeline Walker ~ Halswell      ph 322 4131
Arthur Harrison ~ Wainoni      ph 382 1332
Karen Atherton ~ St Martins    ph 337 6632
Jo Crompton ~  Spreydon        ph 981 8061

Guidelines:
• The mentoring and Studio time programme is available to all financial
members of the Guild

• The member would need to ring the mentor and discuss the project to ensure
they have the mentor who can best meet their needs

• Once the mentor has been established the member will need to arrange a time
for a session which is suitable to all involved

• The duration of the session will be arranged between the mentor and member
• The member should organise the materials – silver, stone etc - required for
the project – mentors will not be responsible for providing any materials

• The mentoring and studio time is to enable members to learn, solve problems
and complete projects started at a workshop or for the Guild Exhibition.

• Remember you are using the tools and equipment belonging to the mentor so
ensure you treat them with care

Minutes of Meeting held at SIT on 1 October at 7pm

Present: Arthur Harrison (Chair), Diederic Ruarus, Solvejg Ruarus, John Weeber,
Mark Atherton and Noeline Walker

Apologies: Karen Atherton and Jo Crompton

Idea newsletter and Eventfinder plus our data base.
We have 8 bookings for Level 1 and 6 for Level 2.
Noeline presented the attendance certificate Crystal had produced alongside
the one presented at the last meeting. Everyone preferred the simpler style.
John suggested including the date

Display Cabinets: The plinths were discussed. Woodplus are going to work out a
really fine price. Noeline and John agreed that the plinths shouldn't cost
anymore than the cabinets themselves.
Tannery: Progress with the build of the space is behind time. Grant is confident it will
ready for us by 15 October.

Ventilation – was discussed with various suggestions including an
extractor fan in the window, and exhaust hood over the soldering
station, change the window to one which opens. Mark suggested we
approach the builders and ask for provision for the exhaust hood be
made and it can be put in at a later date. Athur to investigate

Painting – the contractors are going to paint the ceiling and it was
suggested they could paint down the walls to a level where we could
reach with rollers. Arthur to investigate.

Concrete floor – the expansion joints will be smoothed out

Woodplus has the workstations cutout ready to assemble. The other
storage benches for the sink and the other stainless top are completed
and in Arthur's lockup.

Arthur is donating a mixer tap unit for the sink.

Exhibtion: Mark outlined the conditions for the Buddhist Centre space. It would be for a
month, they handle all sales and exhibitors would need to provide backup
stock for the period. The market rate commission could be negotiated
hopefully.

Noeline is investigating a Gallery space at The Colombo.

Meeting closed at 8.05pm
